This monograph presents Philip-Lorca diCorcia’s Hustlers series, made in Los Angeles between 1990 and 1992. Funded by a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, diCorcia photographed male prostitutes, largely encountered around Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, in deliberately staged settings including motel rooms, vacant lots, cars, and fast-food restaurants. The photographs pair cinematic construction with the subjects’ identifying captions, which record details such as name, age, hometown, and the fee paid. The book publishes the series in its entirety.
