Educational Hub
Bring the art and history of photography into your teaching
PhotoAnthology is a nonprofit encyclopedia that brings photography projects together with research into their context, ideas, and methods. The Educational Hub builds on this resource, giving educators a space to create classes, add teaching materials, and connect the study of photography with students’ own practice.
Professor accounts are free. If you teach photography, we welcome you to explore the Hub and help shape its development.

Build a class around your teaching
Gather projects around a theme, technique, historical period, or artistic question. Arrange them in the order you want to teach and bring different approaches into conversation.
Add your own notes, images, readings, files, and links alongside the projects. Create quizzes that help students become familiar with photographers and their work. With student access through a university license, you can also set photographic assignments and receive students’ images directly within the class.
AI-assisted assignment suggestions draw on the projects in your class, giving you starting points to adapt to your teaching.
Access for different ways of learning
| Access | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Public access — free | Explore the encyclopedia’s project descriptions, research, selected images, photographers, and books. Registered users can also save favorites for future reference. |
| Professor account — free, by invitation | Access the extended educational image archive, build classes with your own teaching materials and quizzes, and nominate projects for inclusion. Classes created with free professor accounts are shared within the Educational Hub community. |
| Student access — through a university license | Professors invite students to join classes, access the extended educational image archive and teaching materials, and submit photographic assignments. The university license also provides private class controls so educators can manage who sees their classes and materials. |
A paid university license supports the infrastructure for teaching with student accounts and managing access. Educators can use a free professor account independently of an institutional license.
A dedicated space for your teaching resources
Bring photographs, readings, and other course materials alongside projects from our archive. With a university license, you and your institution manage who joins your classes and accesses these resources, creating a shared learning space for your students and teaching colleagues.
The Hub provides the infrastructure for sharing copyrighted materials within this controlled teaching environment, supporting the use of teaching exceptions in copyright law. You choose the resources and the people who can access them.
