Aperture's edition of "Koudelka: Gypsies" revitalizes Josef Koudelka's pivotal photographic work capturing Roma society. Lavishly printed with a unique quadratone mix by Gerhard Steidl, the book features 109 images taken between 1962 and 1971 across Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, France, and Spain. This volume revisits Koudelka's original vision based on a 1968 maquette created with graphic designer Milan Kopriva. Initially meant for Prague, the project was abandoned when Koudelka fled to Paris. Featuring over 30 previously unpublished images, the book reflects his collaboration with Robert Delpire and Aperture for the 1975 publication "Gitans."
