Synopsis

This book is the most thorough exploration of Canadian photographer Fred Herzog's work, focusing on his pioneering use of color photography during the 1950s and 1960s when black-and-white dominated art photography. His extensive collection of over 230 images, many previously unpublished, is highlighted. The book includes essays by noted authors David Campany and Hans-Michael Koetzle, as well as artist Jeff Wall. Herzog's work with Kodachrome slide film is reevaluated in light of new technologies that finally allow for archival pigment prints that capture the vivid colors and intensity of his original slides.
