Hyongryol Bak’s "Unseen Land", published for the 10th ILWOO Photography Award exhibition, presents two major photographic series: "Captured Nature" (2010–2012) and the ongoing "Figure Project" (2013–). The book explores the interplay between artificial human constructs and natural environments, using geometric forms and visual interventions to question how nature is perceived, altered, and "owned" by humans. Through staged compositions and conceptual layering, Bak reveals hidden dimensions of landscapes, challenging anthropocentric notions of dominance and control over the natural world. The work is both a visual and philosophical inquiry into our relationship with an unseen, often overlooked, nature.
