Ren Hang, a Beijing photographer who passed away in 2017, was a provocative figure in contemporary art, known for challenging creative boundaries in China. Despite his introverted nature and struggles with depression, Ren's work gained international acclaim, featuring arresting imagery of nude models—friends and fans alike—posed in provocative and surreal positions. His photography explored themes of gender inclusivity and the human form, captured exclusively on film, and displayed in numerous solo and group exhibitions globally. TASCHEN's collection is the only international anthology of his work, including many well-known and previously unseen pieces, highlighting his raw and candid artistic vision.
