This monograph presents Yelena Yemchuk’s photographs of Odesa and its inhabitants, made over four years beginning in 2015, following an initial visit in 2003. Growing up in Kyiv, Yemchuk was drawn to Odesa’s reputation as a free and contradictory place during the Soviet era, shaped by humor, danger, outlaws, and intellectual life. The book is her visual ode to the Ukrainian port city.
