This monograph presents Lynne Cohen’s photographs of institutional and commercial interiors made during the 1970s and 1980s. Using a view camera, Cohen examines classrooms, science laboratories, testing facilities, waiting rooms, offices, reception areas, party rooms, and motel rooms. The images focus on spaces shaped by function, standardization, social engineering, and decorative attempts at individuality, revealing visual contradictions in environments ranging from indoor tennis courts to rooms with painted clouds and forest scenes.
