"Kremikovtsi 88" presents Nikolay Vasilev’s black-and-white photographs taken over ten months in 1988 inside the Kremikovtsi metallurgical complex near Sofia. The album documents workers, production halls, industrial labor, pollution, exhaustion, and the visual remains of late socialist Bulgaria at a major state enterprise. Made with a medium-format Soviet "Salyut" camera and enabled by unrestricted access, the photographs were not produced as a commissioned project but as an independent documentary record. The book examines the contrast between official industrial propaganda and everyday life within the factory.
