This monograph presents Imogen Cunningham’s botanical photographs, made from 1913 through the 1970s, with emphasis on her work of the 1920s and 1930s. More than half the images were previously unpublished. An illustrated essay by Richard Lorenz traces Cunningham’s sustained amateur interest in botany and the development of her imagery alongside twentieth-century technical and aesthetic changes. The book also includes botanical notes on the plants pictured, a chronology of Cunningham’s life, and a selected bibliography.
