This monograph presents Bruce Gilden’s photographs of the “characters” he encounters on the street. Drawing on his lifelong attraction to the energy of urban life, shaped by his upbringing in Brooklyn and his sense of the streets as a second home, Gilden makes close portraits that register fleeting expressions and aspects of his subjects that might otherwise remain concealed.
