This monograph brings together four series by British photographer Sarah Pickering examining civil-defense training and imagined threat. Public Order photographs the Metropolitan Police Public Order Training Centre near London, a simulated urban environment for rehearsing responses to civic unrest. Explosions documents controlled military blasts used in training exercises. Fire Series and Incident, made during Pickering’s residency at the UK Fire Training College, depict staged fires in constructed domestic interiors and the charred remnants of simulated urban settings.
