This monograph presents Anders Petersen’s 1968 photographs of Café Lehmitz, a bar on Hamburg’s Reeperbahn. His candid analog images portray the bar’s distinctive patrons and form a collective portrait of people living on the fringes of society in the city’s red-light district at the end of the 1960s. First published in 1978, the project became a cornerstone of Petersen’s career; one image appeared on the cover of Tom Waits’s album Rain Dogs. This reissue includes a new foreword by Waits.
