This monograph brings together Naoya Hatakeyama’s Blast series, begun in 1995 and made intermittently thereafter, documenting the moment of explosions at limestone mines. The photographs were created through remotely operated film cameras shooting in sequence, an approach sometimes mistaken for digital compositing at a time when CGI was becoming widespread. Selected from more than 100 blasting scenes, the book was designed by Shin Sobue.
