This book explores the diverse career of American photographer Berenice Abbott (1898–1991), highlighting her artistic, documentary, and scientific achievements. It includes 120 photographs and documents, such as letters and periodicals, illustrating the key phases of Abbott's career: her work in the 1920s in the U.S. and Paris, the Changing New York project (1935–39) for the Federal Art Project, and her scientific photography from 1939 to 1961. The book covers Abbott's early artistic development in Paris with Man Ray and her later influential work at MIT. It accompanies an exhibition previously held at Jeu de Paume and Ryerson Image Centre.
