The book is a comprehensive catalogue of Renger-Patzsch's versatile work, highlighting his significant contributions to the photography of the Ruhrgebiet region. It showcases around 70 photographs from his major personal project, the Ruhr landscapes, taken between 1927 and 1935, which explore industrial landscapes as artistic motifs. Additionally, it presents 130 mostly unpublished commissioned works from the 1920s to the 1960s, including architectural, portrait, object, and industrial photography. Known for high craftsmanship and aesthetic quality, the exhibition was held at the Ruhr Museum, Essen, in 2018 and 2019, in collaboration with the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation.
