This book examines photography’s shift from physical prints to digital images and its implications for personal and collective memory. Featuring work by more than 30 contemporary artists, including Thomas Barrow, Matthew Brandt, Ellen Carey, Adam Fuss, Robert Heinecken, Taryn Simon, and James Welling, it considers two approaches: investigations of photographic materials and the use of found photographs as emblems of recollection. The works address the continuing transformation of photography’s material, mental, and physical presence.
