Edward Sheriff Curtis, an American photographer, dedicated 30 years from the turn of the 20th century to documenting over 80 Native American tribes. His ambitious project combined artistic and scientific methods to capture the traditional ways of life that were fading. Curtis's personal dedication and sensitivity allowed him to gain the trust of tribes from the Mexican border to the Bering Straits. His work culminated in "The North American Indian," a 20-volume series published between 1907 and 1930, with only 272 original copies. This book revives Curtis’s significant achievements by making these rare photographs accessible again.
