Kevin Moore's study explores the intertwined legacies of photographers Eugène Atget and Berenice Abbott, focusing on their documentation of urban change. Atget captured 19th-century Paris as modernization unfolded, while Abbott, inspired by Atget, documented New York in her project, Changing New York. After acquiring Atget's works, Abbott published, exhibited, and printed his images using the gelatin silver process, significantly influencing subsequent photographers and writers. This book, associated with FotoFocus, Cincinnati, also accompanied an exhibition at the Taft Museum of Art, spotlighting Abbott's dedication in preserving and honoring Atget’s work while establishing her own photographic authority.
