"Kamaitachi" is a celebrated Japanese photobook by Eikoh Hosoe and Tatsumi Hijikata, released in 1969. It captures Hijikata's improvisational dance performance in a northern Japanese farming village, inspired by the legend of the Kamaitachi demon, as explored through Hosoe’s photography. The project delves into traditional and contemporary Japanese cultural shifts. In 2005, Aperture published a facsimile edition, redesigned by graphic artist Ikko Tanaka, featuring four unpublished images from the series. Hosoe, a pivotal figure in Japanese photography, fosters artistic exchange globally and is associated with the Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York.
