In 1958, 13 years post-Hiroshima catastrophe, Kikuji Kawada embarked on a mission to Hiroshima. Among the ruins of Hiroshima's Prefecture Industrial Exhibition Hall, he photographed haunting stains on its walls, remnants of human presence evoking sorrow and madness, marking the start of his first personal project, Chizu [The Map]. This series grew, featuring faded military fortresses and wartime tools, later crafted into a book by designer Kohei Sugiura. Seventy-five years post-WWII, MACK and the New York Public Library released a facsimile of Chizu's original two-volume dummy, complemented by a bilingual booklet with new research and artist interviews.
