Eugène Atget dedicated over 30 years to photographing Paris, its surroundings, and the French countryside, resulting in over 8,000 images capturing the richness of French culture. His work includes picturesque villages, landscapes, chateaux, and parks from the ancien régime, and post-Haussmann Paris's architectural details and street life. Initially overlooked, his work was later discovered by Berenice Abbott, leading to its preservation by The Museum of Modern Art. This book features 100 selected photographs from Atget’s collection, with John Szarkowski’s essays highlighting Atget's influence on modern photography and his unique artistic vision.
